Just like most of the world, we are trying to eat healthy for the new year and we are still going strong mid January. I am getting my strength workouts in and cardio. I am trying to mentally and spiritually stay focused through meditation and reading inspiring and uplifting books (currently: The Power of Now). And, we are trying to eat clean and healthy. This part is the biggest struggle because I have so many treats I want to experiment with. I am trying for a nice balance of everything—healthy meals, healthy drinks and a few sweet treats and some unhealthy meals (I really want to make my own chicken wings).
Anyway, this smoothie is one of the healthy drinks I have been forcing on the kids lately. So many of our smoothies have banana at the base and Aaron hates bananas so I could never get him to enjoy the smoothies. This one is made without banana. Although it is purple, it is still loaded with nutrients from the kale, blackberries and strawberries. The milk provides the protein so it is a great after workout drink as well.
Ingredients
- 1 cup blackberries
- 1 cup strawberries (washed, with the tops on)
- 2 leaves of kale, de-stemmed
- 1 cup of milk
Instructions
- Put everything in the blender and blend until smoothie (about three-five minutes). Add ice if you want it a bit more slushie. Makes about 4-4ounce smoothies or 2-8 ounce smoothies.
